PD Workshops: Primary and Middle School

9.30am to Noon

Enhancing learning and teaching through assessment and feedback.

Whilst considering the purpose of assessment: determining students’ capabilities, proficiencies and dispositions, the content of the workshop will include the difference between assessment for, of and as learning. Discussion will focus on various effective assessment strategies, and suggest methods for gathering and communicating information to learners, parents and the school. The importance of constructive feedback versus grade, based on research, will be discussed.

12.45pm to 3pm

Targeted Assessment Design

As a follow on from the previous assessment workshop, participants will have the opportunity to develop tools for observation, performance tasks, self and peer evaluation and achievement on problem solving. The importance of encouraging student questions, and reflection on learning will be explored. Teacher designed written assessments, for the purpose of diagnosis of learning and determining students’ strengths, gaps and/or weaknesses, will be included.
