About the Competition

The Hamann School Mathematics Competition is an exciting opportunity for students to take on non-standard mathematical problems. Each year, more than 2000 students from across the state participate in this prestigious competition, which encourages participants to challenge themselves with solving complex, creative problems beyond the classroom curriculum.

The competition provides an excellent platform for students to develop their problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and resilience in tackling difficult questions.

Requirement of Schools

For schools to participate in the competition, it is a requirement that each metropolitan school to nominate at least one mathematics teaching staff member to assist the event by participating in  the marking of the HSMC student papers.

The commitment is for two and one half hours (4.30pm to 7.00pm) – in 2026 this will take place on;

• Monday 18th May for the marking of the Junior level papers
• Wednesday 20th May for the marking of the Primary and Intermediate level papers

All marking will be held at MASA: Building D, 80 Payneham Road Stepney.
