MASA’s Guide to Report Writing
There are 14 activities.
Each activity is expected to take up to 20 minutes.
As such, an activity could be completed in each week, during Term 1 and the beginning of Term 2, so that students can complete an entire investigation at the end of Term 2. Ideas for investigative tasks are provided in Section 3 of this guide.
When it comes to the writing of a mathematical report, the teacher is encouraged to exercise discretion
about the level of scaffolding they think is appropriate for their students. For example, when writing the
Introduction, the sentence starters may be provided to Year 7 students, while Year 10 students may just be
reminded of its three key aspects.
